SYRACUSE MICROD & QUARTERMIDGET MINUTES
MAY 2004

Meeting was called to Order at 7:15 by President, Tony Romano. Minutes were read and motion to accept by Mike Ferguson, 2nd by Jim Smith, all in favor. Treasurer's report was read and motion to accept by Andy Pearson, 2nd by Jim Westcott, all in favor.

Funraising report was handed out. We made $427.00 on the Tulip sale. Our balance is up to $2,715.97. We will be selling Roses for Mother's day at $10.00 per dozen. Will be available for pick up on Friday or Sunday at the Track. Thank you to Sue Mullholland for all her efforts on the Tulip sale.

There will be a bottle drive on June 5th. Please start collecting now. Everyone will meet at Denise Proctor's house and go out from there. Bottles and cans will be brought back to the track to be put in the storage area. Information has already been sent out to newspapers to advertise and Denise has heard from at least one place that would like to donate. She would like to get groups together to go out and hand out & hang up flyers. Denise will map out the areas we will be collecting.

Denise is looking for ideas for a fundraiser for Father's Day. Tony asked Denise to read the letter that she sent out the newspapers.

Questions were raised as to why the sign was taken down at the new facility sight. Once we start turning dirt to build, we can put the sign back up. Peter Capucilli wanted his name taken off the sign and just the New York State Fair's name to be left on.

Tony Romano has called Solvay Electric and is still waiting to hear back from them. We still do not have finalized plans from Gary Bell.

The ground breaking was shown on Channel 10 from 6:00 PM until 10:00 PM on April 16th. Since the clip that was on Channel 10 news, Tony has had a company call to offer a back hoe, roller and other equipment when we need it.

Cortland Economy paving has black top ground up that they use for base on roads before they black top. They would be willing to donate this for the base of the track.

Barrett may be willing to mix asphalt at a reduced price or donate it. Koslowski would be willing to donate the labor for the parking lot, Roadway, he also would be willing to engrave a boulder with the club name to be put out front.

We will need two pavers so there is no seam in the track. Bob Barzee was asked to try and contact Mike Reuter to see if he still has the formula that was used for the paving of the track previously.

Dick Lamphere contacted the club and would like to donate something to the new track. His son raced at the track and was killed.

We need more gravel for the softwalls to get them level. Some are tipped backwards. Need the white base on the bottom. It was felt we might need to fasten them to the ground so they don't come up.

Radios are working fine, no problems so far. Thank you Doug Gwilt.

Tony Romano thanked everyone for all the help at the ground breaking and at track cleanup. He apologized to everyone for not having the lights checked before racing started.

Some issues with the track upkeep are: The self propel on the lawn mower isn't working, it's a broken cable. Doug Gwilt will call Beachy's. If the Lawn mower isn't under warranty Doug will let Tony know so we can get it fixed. It was suggested to go back to the line weedeater because of the softwalls.

Need to spray the plywood on the softwalls with sealer.

The track mowing, etc. will be done by the Quartermidgets in May, July, September and by the Microds in June, August and October.

Lori Wilcox will do the form for the advertising for the Softwalls it will be $200.00 for original advertisement and $100.00 for annual renewal fee. The advertising space will be 18" x 5'.

The Quartermidgets had to change their schedule. One of the dates was during the fair in error.

The nonprofit status - the nonprofit number has gone to the Courts to be approved. Should have this soon.

Tony Romano would like the Track committee to meet once a month just to keep updated on the new facility. It was felt that they would meet the first Wednesday of the month at 6:30, prior to the Microd meeting. The committee will handle anything unless it is felt that the board needs to vote.

It was asked by the Fair that no one drive in front of the colliseum when the signs are out for the horse shows. People had been driving through and it is a problem.

Jeanne Ferguson made a tape of the groundbreaking. Tony Romano said that people could borrow it if they would like to copy it.

Motion to adjourn, Todd Weigand, 2nd Tom Wilcox, Jr., All in favor.

Next Meeting will be the first Wednesday in September tentatively at the Western Ranch.

After the meeting was adjourned, Pam Dinkins asked about the Syracuse Nationals race. It was decided that the Microds and Quartermidgets would race together on Saturday. It's a Hit will donate all the trophies for which the club will give them advertising on one of the softwalls. The clubs will work together in the concession stand and in the scoring tower. The race will be $5.00 per car and all money for the sign-ins and concessions will go to the track fund. Will need to pre-register by July 1, 2004 for wristbands. Only people pre-registered will receive a wrist band.
