SYRACUSE MICROD & QUARTERMIDGET MINUTES
Motion to accept minutes made by Emerson Proctor; seconded by Jim Westcott. Motion to accept the treasurers report made by Jim Westcott; seconded by Andy Fusco. New Members: Vice President Tony Romano welcomed new members Bob & Bobbie Jo Eastman with daughter Rebecca and John & Kim Graziano with son Nicholas. 50/50 Account: Both sides of the club have agreed to put all 50/50 monies into the building fund account for the 2005 racing season. Both sides of the club will no longer use their own 50/50 bank accounts until after the new track is in place. Jeanne Ferguson is going to research Certificate of Deposit interest rates and possibly close our bank account and purchase a CD. Carquest Motorsports Expo Show March 11-13, 2005: We are allowed to have a total of 24 cars to display. Each c ar entered will be given two weekend passes. We will be setting up a table to request donations for the new track. Everyone is encouraged to take turns and help out with the fundraising. Fundraising: Tony Romano has found two local restaurants that are willing to sell our paper cars. The restaurants are No Name Diner on Court St. and Carl's Kountry Kitchen. They will hang the paper cars on their walls for two weeks and then they would like for our membership to bring our cars for display for a day. Tony will contact Denise and get this going. Also, Tony Romano has asked Supercuts to do the same for us; he is waiting for an answer. State Proposals: Neck Collars: the rule book states that neck collars are mandatory for open wheels but only recommended for microds-this needs to be fixed and clarified in the 2005 rule book. Fueling cars: The Syracuse rule book states that fueling is not allow ed while the driver is in the car. This is not in the NYSMA rulebook. This will be corrected in this years book. Friendship Series: In 2005 our club will be teaming up with the Fingerlakes Microd Club and having a Friendship Series which will consist of a total of four races. Two races at the Fingerlakes Microd Club and two races at our track. The dates of the series are June 30 and August 4 at Syracuse and August 6 and August 27 at Fingerlakes. RC Cars: The RC Cars would like to use our track on Tuesday evenings to race their cars. We will be running the concession stand and we can run a 50/50 each week to raise extra money for our building fund. The Quarter Midgets and the Microds will have to take turns running the stand each week. Winter Party: A success once again; everyone had a good time. Special Thanks to Tony Sobon for his DJ services! Go-Kart Race: March 26, 20 05 in the Center of Progress Building at the NYS Fairgrounds. Three of our members will be competing-Tommy Felicia, Jimmy Kostarelos and Andrew Schartner. All members are welcome to come cheer these drivers on. Good Luck! State Treasurer Report: There was some concern regarding our insurance coverage. We did not lose our coverage. We paid the premium from insurance for last year and because we have dealt with the company for over 20 years they kept us covered. Website: Andrew Schartner has some new ideas. He is changing the background colors so hopefully people can read it better. He would like to do a segment on the site called DRIVER OF THE WEEK. He would place 5 drivers names on the site each week after racing and then everyone could vote on who they felt was the Driver of the week. This would be based on weekly finishes, sportsmanship, per eformance, etc. The membership had some concerns over the voting. It was suggested that after a driver wins once they should not be able to win again that year. Also, Andrew would like to write a weekly column highlighting that weeks race. He would like some input from other people watching the races. Andrew would also like to have the monthly minutes emailed to him so he can place them on the website. Missy will do this. Kids Fun Day: June 5, 2005 The Syracuse Microd Club Drivers will be parking their cars on the race track and signing autographs. We will be encouraging all the kids to hand out flyers at their schools the week before. Also to friends, family and neighbors. We would like to see a good spectator turn out which will hopefully increase our membership! The kids will be allowed to handout candy, pictures, flags, etc. We would also like to have some raffles; we need to have something kid oriented donated to raffle that day. Andy Fusco will interview the kids on the track. Clean Up Day: After much discussion it was decided that if you cannot make clean up day you must contact Tony Romano or Tom Wilcox Jr. and you will be required to sign up to do a job at two races during the season. If you do not sign up with Tom or Tony by May 1st then you will be assessed a $50.00 fine at the first points race. Some of the weekly jobs that need to be done are sell 50/50 tickets, run the lights and lap counter, concession stand, score, back stretch flag, and scales. If you cannot work during a race because you are alone then you can sign up to mow the lawn or work at a Tuesday night RC race. Motion to adjourn made by Emerson Proctor; seconded by Mike Ferguson. |
